Rutland Water and Peterborough among the destinations for Fenland Running Club members
Two members of the Prince family were at Rutland Water for different events in a varied week of events for Fenland Running Club members.
Lesley Prince from the club completed the course in a chip time of 1:03:20, finishing 351/588 and sixth of 12 in her age category.
Not to be outdone, Simon Prince entered the world of the triathlon, undertaking his first event by competing in the Dambuster Triathlon Rutland, which entails a 1500m swim, 40km bike and completes with a 10k run, all of which he completed in a time of 2:55:02 to finish 218th in a field of 402 and eighth of 16 within his age category.
They both had to contend with extremely hot conditions.
The second race of the Peterborough GP 5k Series took place on a very warm and humid Wednesday evening at Ferry Meadows and was hosted by Bushfield.
Just like the first event, chip timing was again in use as it will be throughout the series, enabling all athletes to get a more accurate finish time.
Fenland Running Club was again well represented with 13 runners participating and completing the 5k in under 30 minutes.
Leading the club home was Andrew Plume, finishing 16th from a field of 426.
Both Andrew (40/44) and Malcolm Tuff (60/64) took first place in their respective age categories.
The other Fenland runners competing were: Aaron Porter, Dan Tickner, Rimvydas Muduras, Tom Richards, Mark Heeley,
Ann Trett, Leah Stevens, Nigel Marlow, Jac Richards, Andrew Mallett and Ian King.
Whilst many attend an otherwise well-known music festival, two Fenland runners chose a running event on what has been one of the hottest weekends so far this year.
With 366 runners taking part, it was a large field and both Fenland runners ran well in the conditions.
Andrew Mallett and Zoe Thornton kept each other company throughout, only being split by the finest of margins.
Mallett registered a time of 1:02:16 and Thornton, close on his heels, recorded a time of 1:02.17, which was just outside her target time of 1 hour, but yet another PB.
