Fenland Running Club’s Jones fourth in 20-mile Rat Race

Ryan Jones from Fenland Running Club joined around 7,000 runners who braved the challenging terrain and 200 huge obstacles at the 20 mile Rat Race Dirty Weekend event at Burghley House, Stamford, on Saturday.

Billed as “the world’s toughest assault course” Ryan was one of just 75 competitors who chose to tackle the ‘Dirty Double Ultra’, or two laps. He finished fourth in an amazing time of just over eight hours 15 minutes.

At the Eye 10K on Sunday with a record entry of 528 runners, the intense sun and heat caused everyone problems. Five FRC members were in the race with Richard Hammond first home. Maire Irlam took the LV50 category trophy.

l March AC members took part in the Prague Marathon on Sunday. They had to contend with the heat and large stretches of cobble streets. All four finished, with Tom Orr crossing the line first for the club with a time of 4 hours 28 minutes, Dawn Veal 4 hours 33, Suzanne Orr 6 hours 5 minutes, Pat Brown 6 hours 32.

Eye 10K: Fourteen club runners took part, with Billy Bremner first home in 41 minutes and 19 seconds, placing him 35th overall.

l Three Counties Running club member Stewart Harrison completed his first half ironman at Peterborough in 5.36.37 and Tayo Willett was first in his age group at the Grantham Sprint triathlon in 1.13.

At King’s Lynn some of the runners from the Active Fenland group, which is coached and supported by the Three Counties club, were completing their first ever 5K.
