Fenland Running duo’s ultra effort to finish marathon

On Sunday Andre Pittock, Andy Wicklen and Mel Trayford from Fenland Running Club took part in the Peddars Way Ultra Marathon which started at Knettishall Heath on the Suffolk border and finished at the village hall, Kirkgate, near Holme Next-the-Sea on the North Norfolk coast.

Organised by Positive Steps, Fitness and Wellbeing, the course follows the ancient Roman road, and covered a distance of approximately 48 miles. It was completed by a total of 121 finishers from the 129 starters.

They ran as a group of three for mutual support, unfortunately Andy had to pull up with an injury just after half-way, having completed a marathon distance.

Andre and Mel, however, managed to keep working together and helping each other when the other was feeling the pressure and fatigue and finished together with Andre 43rd in a time of 9:00:44 and Mel 44th in 9:00:47.
