Doncaster Rovers snap up the services on Fenland youngster on two-year deal

A Fenland teenager has secured his first professional football contract with a League Two club.

Freddie Allen, 18, has agreed terms with Doncaster Rovers.

Son of Paul and Alison Allen of Wimblington, Freddie was a former pupil at Wisbech Grammar School who has spent the last two years on a scholarship with the Yorkshire-based club, combining both his football ambitions with his studies in Doncaster.

Having started his football career at Chatteris Tigers under the guidance of local manager and player Jack Saunders, Freddie quickly moved on to Cambridge City where he captured the attention of several football league clubs.

He decided to continue with his development at Norwich City until aged 16.

After leaving the Norwich City Academy, Doncaster Rovers were quick to secure his services for the next two years, which has now resulted in professional terms being offered to him for the next two years.

The youngster figured in the first-team squad on a couple of occasions under the previous manager but now wishes to focus his attention to try and break into the first team under the guidance of Grant McCann.

Freddie commented: “I’m delighted it be given the opportunity to continue my development and career with Doncaster and all the hard work and dedication has paid dividends.

"It’s hard graft, but enjoyable, and I can't wait for the new season to start and get back to the training ground.

"We have a full programme of games pre-season, including a week-long training trip to Portugal to look forward to.”
