Wisbech Town FC manager Seb Hayes says he has one of smallest BetVictor Northern Premier League South East Division playing budgets
Wisbech Town FC manager Seb Hayes admits he has one of the smallest playing budgets in the league.
The Fenmen boss told the Fenland Citizen that one of Wisbech’s BetVictor NPL South East Division rivals recently were spending £350 per week on new signings.
He commented: “We just can’t live in that market.
“It’s easy when you’ve got a bit of money to go out and get players.”
On whether his budget is one of the smallest, Hayes replied: “Without a shadow of a doubt. If we haven’t got the smallest playing budget, then we’re in the bottom three.”
Recruiting players isn’t helped by the Fenmen being out on the extreme geographical fringe of their league, but Hayes doesn’t mind that.
“For me, I don’t think the travelling’s that bad. If you’re a football person, you’ll travel any distance,” he said.
“Yes,geographically it’s not ideal and it would be better if we were more in a southerly league, but the journeys being just over two hours is an issue for other clubs so we can’t really use that as an excuse.
“Obviously some people don’t want to be playing at this level. Those that do, fair play to them, and they want to get paid as much money as they can.
“We’re not one of those clubs that can pay silly money. There are lot of clubs who can.
“They’ve got it to dish out; we haven’t.”
