Five Wisbech Swimming Club members represented the West Norfolk Schools’ team at the Norfolk School Games Swimming Gala at the UEA Sportspark in Norwich.

They had won their places on the team after victories in individual races at the schools’ swimming competition in November 2014.

A series of fine performances in UEA’s eight-lane pool saw the swimmers achieve excellent individual results.

In the backstroke, Billy Lane (Year 7) placed fourth and Carl Purvey (Year 9) first; Oliver Harris (Year 9) took third in the breastroke; in the freestyle races Alex Gallagher (Year 7) was fifth, Bryony Pack (Year 9) third and Carl Purvey third.

Finally, in the butterfly events Bryony Pack finished sixth and Oliver Harris fifth.

Alex Gallagher also took part in the Year 7 Mixed Relay, the team placing third. Bryony Pack, Carl Purvey and Oliver Harris enjoyed an exciting end to the morning’s swimming, taking part in the Year 9 Mixed Relay; a nail-biting final race saw them take first place.

The West Norfolk team emerged as winners overall in the gala, beating seven other Norfolk teams.
