March Town United assistant boss and club captain Max Mattless is on the road to recovery after having an operation on his troublesome knee and is targeting a comeback before the end of the year.

The defender picked up a knee injury in training at the beginning of the season.

March Town manager Arran Duke said: “Max’s operation has gone well.

“He’s currently resting but he’s hopeful of returning to action at back end of the year, which is obviously great news for the club.”

The Hares fell victim to the weather as Saturday’s Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League Division One North game at home to Cornard United was postponed.

Last night (Tuesday) fourth-spot March Town were due to host King’s Lynn Town Reserves and on Saturday go to Norwich CBS, who are immediately below them on goal difference.

Duke added: “We will have a full squad available versus Lynn and, as it stands, no new signings are expected.”

Two goals from Toby Allen saw the Hares go through to the semi-finals of the Division One League Cup on Tuesday last week.

The Hares will now play the winners of the other North Division game between Mulbarton and Lakenheath, with the victors in that game playing the winners of the South Division competition in the final.

It was goalless at half-time in Norfolk, but Allen struck twice after the break against opponents who are also rivals in the promotion race. Allen now has 11 goals this season.

The March boss was full of praise for Dylan Edge, who last week moved to Wisbech and this was the first game March had without him.

Duke said of the forward player: “Dylan is a great lad, and while he will be missed, we’ve got a very big squad.

“The lads pulled together Tuesday to get the win without him, so I see no reason why we can’t do that again for the rest of the season.

“I’ve just got to respect his decision, and use the strong squad I already have.”

March: Congreve, Baker, McLeish, Emmington, Cooke, Rawson, Saunders, Rothery, Friend, Allen, Gibson. Subs: Short, B Warren, Gillies.

l Details of March’s game against Lynn Reserves will be online this morning (Wednesday) if it went ahead.
