Saints boss Alex Kaufman said this was a vital psychological win since if his basement side had lost, the gap between them and the rest of the league would be too much to close.

Wisbech St Mary are still bottom of the table but picked up their second win of the season with an impressive 4-0 home victory against King's Lynn Reserves.

Goals came via Jake Miller a header from a corner, Corey Kingston's seventh in nine games a minute before half-time, Jordan Goult another header from a corner, and Ryan Harnwell with a cross/shot.

Kaufman said: "I was really, really pleased with them. We're starting to come together as a team now.

"I still think we should have won last week with the two penalties. We're getting to where we are, I believe, as a team and as a club.

"We've now got to go and follow this up away at Haverhill Borough next Saturday. As it stands, I've got a full squad.

"We've finally got three points and a clean sheet. Psychologically, it is really important to keep us going.

"If we had lost today then the space between us and other teams is quite large. Hopefully it'll close. it down a little bit."

Haverhill Borough are three places and eight points above Saints.
