March Town United have made their first signing of the summer by bringing in forward Matthew Barber.

Barber, 24, arrives at the GER from Peterborough Sports.

Hares boss Chris Bartlett said: “Matt isn’t your normal out-and-out striker. He plays more behind the frontman and is fast and technically very good.

“We’ve got a very small budget and Matt had several better offers, but he wanted to come and sign for us.”

Barber started his career at Peterborough Sports in the side that won promotion from Peterborough League Division One in 2011.

After spells at both Deeping Rangers and Yaxley, in the UCL Premier, he returned to Sports at the end of 2014 following a bad leg break.

All of last season’s squad have been retained, including Luke McDowell and Leon Gellizeau, who were restricted to a handful of appearances last season.

“I think the fact that every player from last season has been retained is kind of testament to the kind of foundation which we now have in place here,” said Bartlett.

“Last season, the majority of the squad was assembled a couple of weeks before the start of the campaign. This time, we can have a proper pre-season with a full squad in place.”
