Lilies runners-up to Over Sports and go up to Cambs League Premier at first attempt after winning 2-0 at Cottenham United

By Pete Woodhouse

Chatteris Town Football Club celebrated promotion while Wisbech Town finished 17th in their debut Evostik NPL campaign and March Town sealed a top four spot.

Wisbech Town completed a tough season which saw the Fenmen make many trips up north by losing 0-1 at home to Evostik Division One East champions Morpeth Town.

It was "pay what you want" admission at the Elgood's Fenland Stadium on Saturday. A goalless second half saw the visitors take the points.

The Fenmen finished on goal difference above local rivals Spalding – perhaps no coincidence that two of the sides with the most travelling to make ended up in the bottom four. Wisbech will no doubt wish to switch leagues.

Midfielder Danny Setchell summed up the gruelling season when he Tweeted on avoiding the drop: "What a rollercoaster year it’s been! Objective achieved! 10 goals 28 assists roll on next year."

Wisbech Town FC host their presentation evening on Saturday, May 11 at 7.30pm.

March Town United sealed fourth position in Thurlow Nunn League First Division North with a 2-1 win at Diss Town, in-form striker Craig Gillies notching a brace.

They ended up with 72 points, two ahead of fifth-spot Lakenheath who ended with a 2-0 success over third-place Mulbarton Wanderers.

March from: Toby Allen, Drew Barker, Jack Friend, Lewis Gibson, Craig Gillies, Max Mattless, Luke Pepper, Charles Pocklington, Jack Rawson, Jamie Short, Dylan Kilford. Substitutes: Mohammed Javed Akhtar, Casey Logan. Attendance: 67.

Chatteris Town were runners-up in Kershaw Senior A to Over Sports and thus secured promotion to the Cambs League Premier Division Step 7 at their first attempt after winning 2-0 at Cottenham United.

The Lilies' senior presentation evening is on Sunday, May 5 at 3pm.

Chatteris boss Alex Kaufman said: "Thanks to everyone that supported the lads this season and got along to the games. It certainly makes a difference having so many people behind us.

"The club's in a good place on and off the pitch and that’s down to everyone behind the scenes as well as those that play week in week out for the badge. This promotion is for you!"
