Calvert’s debut double seals cup success

March Rangers 5, Chatteris 1

Rangers took the lead in this Knockout Cup quarter-final with new signing Ben Calvert making his mark in his debut game early on.

Matty Carey and Josh Hussey took Rangers into the break 3-0 up with well taken goals.

In the second half Chatteris, with the wind advantage, soon put the pressure on Rangers with a quick goal.

They should have added a second when a quickly-taken free kick crashed the cross bar only for Rangers to clear the rebound. Goals from Tony Cunnington and a second from man of the match Ben Calvert took Rangers through to face Whittlesford in the semi-finals.

Godmanchester 1, Chatteris 2

A hard fought match saw Chatteris return to winning ways at the top of the table. Godmanchester gave them a run for their money, but a goal from Charlie Pitt in the first half and Adam Reditt’s debut goal in the second half gave them victory.

Leverington 3, Docking 2

Two goals from Sam Lewis (mom) and a excellent solo effort from Matthew Orobosa was enough to see Leverington progress through to the next round of the subs cup.

With the wind behind them Leverington got off to the perfect start when Lewis poked home in a busy penalty area in the first minute.

Docking soon drew level in the second half with a good effort. Lewis was in the right place at the right time to put Leverington back in the lead, only for Docking to level it up again.

With time running out and extra time looming Orobosa ran on to a long ball and finished well showing good strength and determination.

Hampton 2, March 3

March overcame difficult playing conditions to record a deserved win.

Hampton scored first before Dan Waltham muscled through three challenges to set up Niall Kightly to score the equaliser.

Hampton took advantage of the strong wind to take the lead before half time.

After the break March dominated and the Hampton keeper saved well to deny Stef Cavozzi (twice) and Dan Waltham. Niall Kightly raced clear to score a well taken equaliser before Stef Cavozzi crossed for Kyle Bird to score the winner.

Thorpe Wood 0, Leverington 6

Leverington were without their main striker due to an ankle injury, but the rest of the boys worked hard to break down a stubborn defence.

Tommy Wiles played well and was rewarded with a goal and a penalty, which was converted by James Towson. Other goalscorers were Leoun Savage 2, Lewis Stearne and Liam Dennis. Harry Barnes celebrated his birthday with the match award.

Manager Nigel Dennis said: “I am really pleased with the way it has gone so far this season. To go 14 games without dropping a league point is a great effort but we still have a long way to go.”

West Winch 3, Estover Park 0

A much changed team gave debuts for Daniel Southwell (mom) and Zachary Mulholland and a welcome return from Harvey Darville.

A nervous start saw West Winch open up an early 3-0 lead before Estover improved, creating chance after chance without scoring. Callum Kirby went the closest when his effort hit the inside of the post.

Werrington 4, WSM Yellow 2

In very windy conditions Saints failed to push home the advantage of the wind and found themselves 1-0 down at half time.

After the break Werrington continued to push forward and added three more goals before Saints found their stride with Kieran Symons scoring twice and man of the match going to Jamie Blades.

March SS B 5, WSM Purples 1

March produced a fantastic team performance to record their eighth win in a row. Caimen Campbell scored a superb hat-trick and Fyn Smith added two more goals.

Terrington 0, Hungate 11

Hungate saw their superb passing game pay dividends with 11 goals.

Credit goes to both sides for playing the game in the right spirit throughout. Special mention to the Terrington goalkeeper who made some excellent saves.

Goals came from Jay Rout 4, Thomas Skuse 3, Lewis Jackson 2, Aaron Buckley and Lewis Forth. Thomas Fender (mom) did not put a foot wrong all game.
