Chatteris Town lost 2-1 at Ely City Res in a Cambs League Premier Division game manager Steve Bright said they did not deserve to lose.
Ely scored during an even-steven first 20 minutes through a goalkeeping error, but Ben Matthews levelled after being set up by Richie Allen, who in turn had latched on to a through ball from Karl Anderson.
Chatteris gave away an unfortunate winner when a cross cannoned off the shin of Luke Matthews and into the net before the interval.
“In the second half we just pushed Ben Matthews up a bit more and in truth we totally dominated the half. Ben should have scored with a header from three or four yards, but the ball was a bit too high.
“We were very unlucky. We deserved at least a draw. Captain Simon Howard was outstanding.”
Wisbech St Mary lost to the odd goal in five to West Wratting in the league cup.
Manager Arran Duke said: “I made some changes with it being a cup game: some worked, some didn’t.
Saints had a good start with Arran McKenna firing them ahead on three minutes, but they switched off and conceded two sloppy goals
Duke brought on Stuart Ablett and Chris McAree at half-time to make a five-man middle and an excellent team move was finished by substitute McAree.
He added: “We dominated the half but conceded late on via a long free-kick headed home by their centre half.
“We learned a lot and were pleased that 16-year-old Shane Green started his first game in the first team.”
In Senior A Wimblington lost 6-3 at Fulbourn Res with goals from Jody Day, Liam Fox and sub Adam Parrish.
Senior B side Outwell Swifts went down 5-2 at third spot West Row Gunners, Ben Jimson and Callum Fendley replying.
A James Waters strike separated the sides for Manea at Doddington in Division 1B.
Andrew Bryan replied for March Town Reserves in their 2-1 home defeat to Godmanchester Res. Somersham Town who are the only side along with Manea who have a 100 per cent record after playing two games, triumphed 8-0 over Chatteris Res, who had just one substitute on the bench.
In Division 2B March Rangers stalemated 3-3 with Isleham, Thomas Denston 2 and Yannick Parrish on target. Tydd United lost 15-0 to visiting Brampton Res.
The Division 3B game between Estover Park and Elsworth was abandoned after 14 minutes due to a serious injury to a player. Elsworth had taken the lead from a penalty after Park keeper, James Brown, upended a forward. Rob Mitchell went close to an equaliser before the Elsworth player got a suspected broken leg at Wisbech’s Thomas Clarkson Community College.
WSM A triumphed 7-1 at home to Mildenhall United with a nap hand five goals from Martin Wright. Thomas Diggines and Gary Handcock were also on target. Wimblington Res lost 2-0 at home to Benwick, with Matthew Grainger and Dayne Moore the marksmen.
In Division 4B WSM B won 3-0 at Chatteris A v, while Doddington Res lost 3-1 at leaders Soham United Res with Ross Alexander scoring.
