Wisbech boss Steve Appleby not only shuffled his team for last Tuesday’s FA Cup replay, but he also made a crafty switch from the usual dug-out in front of the changing rooms.
The Fenmen have been using the same dug-out since the Fenland Stadium opened over a year ago but Appleby felt visiting teams were getting an unfair advantage on the other bench.
He explained: “When we lost against Dereham I felt their bench were intimidating the assistant referee in front of them and as a result some decisions went their way.
“So I just thought we will go further down the touchline and stop it happening and we will probably keep using it.”
But do not look for Appleby in the dug-out this Saturday for the visit of Wroxham in the FA Cup as he is already committed to be somewhere else that afternoon.
“I have a long standing promise to attend a wedding that day and there is nothing I can do about it.
“The club have known about it but no doubt I will be on the phone a few times during the afternoon to see how things are going,” explained boss Appleby.
