Defensive woes are punished

March Town 1,

Swaffham Town 6

The Hares suffered their biggest defeat of the season in the Thurlow Nunn Division One at the GER on Saturday.

Manager Paul Crosbie complained: “It was a really frustrating afternoon. We have created more chances than we have done for a long time but silly defensive mistakes have also let us down.

“We also suffered from very poor officiating. Twice the linesman could not keep up with play and allowed them their second and third goals which were offside. Then the referee awarded Swaffham a penalty when their centre forward actually kicked the back of Adam Sutton’s heel when he went down.

“Swaffham punished us when the chances came and we now have to halt this slide down the table. With Ash Brand and Luke Pepper returning I believe we have the players to turn things round and with no game next week we will be looking to find the answers in training.”

March went 1-0 down after eight minutes when Ben Collett missed the ball trying a clearance on the edge of the area leaving the Swaffham player with a tap in.

Michael Anker had two efforts saved by the keeper before Swaffham scored twice from what appeared to be offside positions to make it 3-0.

Danny Emmington then produced a good solo goal running 30 yards with the ball before firing into the net.

On the stroke of half-time Swaffham scored from the penalty spot with another harsh decision.

Swaffham then added two more goals but there were chances at the end too with Pepper and another sub Ash Brand twice going close.

March are now 14th in the table after a sixth successive defeat and could slip into the bottom four next week.

March: Ben Collett, Max Mattless, Adam Sutton, Ben Lemmon; Stu Anderson, Michael Anker, Scott Welcher, James McDonough, Sam Darlow; Robbie Masters, Danny Emmington. Subs used: Luke Pepper, Josh Westley, Ash Brand.
