Fenmen boss sets festive points target

Wisbech Town boss Steve Appleby has targeted 12 out of the next 15 points, beginning with two home clashes over the festive period.

The Fenmen today (Boxing Day, 11am kick-off) host Godmanchester Rovers and on Saturday are against Felixstowe & Walton United in the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division.

Stacy Cartwright is only 50/50 for Boxing Day after hurting his back at work, while fellow defender Scott Johnson is unavailable for family reasons. Anthony Reeve returns.

The only absentee for Saturday, apart from skipper Paul Cousins being out for three to four weeks with a calf strain, is Neal Spafford (suspended).

Manager Appleby said of his versatile player: “Stacy has been at the doctors because he pulled his back, we are just waiting on his fitness.

“I had a bit of a word with the lads about all the games running up to the FA Vase game.”

Appleby originally wanted 15 out of 18 points before Saturday’s trip to Walsham-le-Willows, which was postponed.

Now he says: “I definitely want 12 out of 15. We can’t afford many more slip-ups. We’ve got to show a bit of quality and that we’re a good side.

“The postponement gave us a break to think things over and try to get everyone fit.”

“Obviously being at home we are expected to win them, but we know Godmanchester will come here and give it a go.

“Felixstowe have been on the up since they got a new manager. They beat Brantham 3-0 the other week, I believe, so they are no mugs.

“We’ve got to take a bit of care over our preparation and make sure we do things right.”
