Fenmen off to friendly winning start

Sleaford Town 0 Wisbech Town 2

FIRST half strikes from Chris Bacon and Callum Reed meant Wisbech registered a winning start to their preseason friendly programme last night (Thursday).

Reed slotted away a penalty after a push on Ollie Gale in the Lincolnshire side’s box.

Wisbech boss Steve Appleby said: “It was a good workout and a good game for us.

“It was a quite physical game at times, but when we got the ball we passed it well. I tend to do these types of games because in the FA Cup we usually face teams from the UCL.”

Striker Dubi Ogbonna and midfielder Rogan McGeorge, who both signed for the Fenmen last week from Soham Town Rangers, got their first run-outs for the club.

Appleby reported that apart from a few tight muscles and sinews the squad came through unscathed by injury and confirmed that four players will be unavailable for Saturday’s derby at King’s Lynn: Matt Lunn, Scott Johnson, Anthony Reeve and Callum Reed.

Wisbech: Roberts; Spafford, Cousins, Fairweather, Johnson; Millson, Reid, Gale, Reed, Bacon, Jimson. Second half subs: Cartwright, Reeve, McGeorge, Ogbonna, Cubberley, Jordan.
