STEVE Appleby was quick off the mark to sign a fifth goalkeeper for Wisbech Town this afternoon following the latest injury to Rick Lovelace.
The Wisbech boss has recruited Nial Conroy-Owen from UCl club St Ives Town and he will make his debut against Stanway Rovers at the Fenland Stadium on Saturday.
The 20-year-old was a regular first choice for Saints last season but has recently lost that spot to Nick Bennion.
Lovelace has joined other goalkeepers Lea Jordan and Tom Roberts on the injured list after a reoccurrence of a shoulder injury following Tuesday’s cup win against March Town and now faces an MRI scan.
Appleby had also signed King’s Lynn keeper Alex Street this week on dual forms, but he is required to play for the Linnets on Saturday in the FA Trophy.
He said “You just cannot believe you can lose three goalkeepers to injury in such a short time. Thankfully St Ives have come to our rescue by allowing Nial to play on Saturday.”
