Wisbech Town Football Club will be joining the Chromasport & Trophies United Counties League next season.
It was confirmed the first team will leave the Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League.
An official club statement was released, saying:
Wisbech Town Football Club’s first team will be bidding farewell to the Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League following a successful application to join the Chromasport & Trophies United Counties League for the 2013-14 season.
Speaking to the Peterborough Telegraph, manager Steve Appleby said: “Moving into the UCL will provide a fresh challenge for myself and the lads after the disappointment of missing out on promotion - and it’s a challenge we will relish.”
Appleby, assistant manager Chris Dear, and the majority of last year’s playing staff have agreed to stay, with Chris Bacon and Matt Lunn – who are moving away – confirmed as departures.
Joe Jackson has indicated he is looking to return to Swaffham Town and Appleby had this to say about the young striker: “Joe is a quality lad, he produced the goods from the off, although he did take his time to settle. Once he did, he was a real asset to the side.
“It’s a crying shame that he feels unable to stay with us next season but he feels as though he fits in better at Swaffham. We do, of course, wish him well with his football career and we’d love to see him in a Wisbech shirt again before too long.”
The club would like to place on record its thanks to the Officers and Officials of the Thurlow Nunn League for their help and assistance over the years, especially to League Chairman Peter Hutchings and League Secretary Nigel Spurling, who have fully supported the club’s request to make a lateral switch at Step 5.
