Fightback is left too late

TYDD St Mary lost 4-6 to Old Doningtonians in a great goal feast on Saturday in the Spalding Inter Services Cup Final held at Holbeach United’s Carter’s Park.

Tydd started strongly and a fierce Mark Garner corner was fumbled by the Old Dons ‘keeper into his own net. Old Dons then went 4-1 up at half time.

The Saints brought on Steven Robinson and Pablo Da Silva but Old Dons went 6-1 up. An injury to centre half Daniel Monaghan saw player manager Mark Greenacre join the game and this was the catalyst for a Saints fight back.

Goals came from Da Silva’s lob, Ash Godfrey and with seven minutes left the keeper palmed another Garner corner into his net.

Greeneacre said: “The last 30 minutes of the game was all Tydd and I cannot thank the lads enough for the effort they put in.”
