A new ladies football team is being set up for season 2013-14, under March Town United FC.
March has not had a ladies team for three seasons. The team was originally an idea at Estover Park Youth FC, who had an U16 Girls team folding at the end of last season. The team held a well attended ‘taster’ session before moving across to March Town FC.
The team have also secured a Sportivate Grant for six specific training sessions, aimed at re-introducing ex-players and new players into the sport. Sportivate are an organisation which provides lottery funding predominately for the 16-24 age groups and after the six sessions, the team will continue with weekly training and start to arrange friendlies.
With the team already entered in the S Tech Women’s League for next season and a kit sponsor, the management will be Gary Davis and Andy Powell.
Davis said: “I know ex-players who have given up the game as they can’t travel to other clubs.
“Both Andy and myself are looking forward to the new season and I would like to thank Teilo Pearce of Estover Park for helping us progress this far.”
The Sportivate Sessions start on the Neale-Wade Astro on Sunday from 3.30-5.30pm. Cost of training is £3 a session. Unfortunately, places are limited to 24 players, so please text Gary on 07824 337771 with your name, age and whether you are prepared to go on a waiting list if you can’t be fitted into the first session.
