Hares have cutting edge

Godmanchester 0, March Tn 3

March Town got off the mark for the season in the Ridgeons Division One on a ground they have not enjoyed success at for the last decade on Wednesday.

It was Godmanchester who started the game the brighter but the Hares took the lead after 25 minutes rather against the run of play. Ash Brand supplied the pass for Stu Anderson to continue his prolific goalscoring run with 10 goals already this summer.

Andy Wayte went close to making it 2-0 just before the break after good passing from Anderson and Ricky Goodale.

Once again the home side started the second half the better but although they had several crosses into the box they could never really trouble Lea Jordan.

March increased their lead. Ash Brand’s initial shot was blocked by the home goalkeeper but he then put the loose ball into the net.

Adam Rothery sealed the win with a third goal five minutes from the end hitting a stunning shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Manager Brett Whaley said: “It was a lot more even game than the scoreline suggests. We were just that bit better than them in the final third of the pitch and had a cutting edge. We have struggled at Godmanchester over the years so it was nice to win there.”
