Thetford Town 0, March Town 1
A SECOND half goal from Ondre Odain was enough to put the Hares through to the Ridgeons Division One Knockout Cup semi-finals on Tuesday night.
It was a very good performance from Brett Whaley’s side, considering the number of players missing, leaving him with just 12 players on the night.
March had ended Thetford’s long winning run in the league before Christmas and this was another tight game.
In the first half Aaron Butcher produced a very good save to keep the home side from taking the lead, while at the other end Odain just failed to chip the keeper and Ash Brand was close to diverting a ball across the face of the goal into the net.
After the break there was still little between the two sides as the midfields dominated, but after 65 minutes March broke the deadlock.
Brand was fouled and Gav Cooke’s well directed free kick was headed home by Odain.
Whaley said: “It was a real nightmare on Tuesday phoning round players but those that did turn out did very well.
“We defended extremely well and the players in front worked very hard too.
“Thetford had scored nine goals on Saturday but we reduced them to mainly long range efforts so that shows how well we did defensively.”
March: Aaron Butcher, Lewis Medwynter, Lewis Cook, Adam Rothery, Adam Sutton, Gavin Cooke, Ondre Odain, Kyle Nolan, Stu Anderson, Luke Pepper, Ash Brand. Sub used: Ricky Goodayle.
