Hares suffer red card and injury in defeat

March Town Utd 1, Braintree Res 3

The Hares endured a torrid day with skipper Max Mattless being sent off and sub Ben Lemmon suffering what looks like a serious injury in Thurlow Nunn League Division One on Saturday.

Hares boss Paul Crosbie said: “Ben got clobbered in the last five minutes and they’re taking him to hospital to have some X-rays. The injury looks fairly serious.

“The first 25 minutes is probably the best they have played this season, we had Braintree pinned back. I can’t be critical of my players.

“Aaron McKenna had his shirt pulled off just before Max was sent off, when the centre-forward just seemed to run across Max, but the ref didn’t want to know.”

The resultant penalty when Mattless was red-carded made it 2-0 on 30 minutes, while another spot-kick sealed March’s fate on the hour mark. Sam Egbayelo volleyed home at the end.

March: Flintoff, Dunlop, Darlow, Mattless, Egbayelo, Ogden (Lemmon, Brazil), Jackson, Gibbons, McKenna, Richardson, S White. Sub unused: Crosbie.

Crosbie has a combination of Lemmon, Lewis Cook and Gary White (all injured), Paul Richardson (away), Shaun White and Sam Darlow (both working) all unavailable for last night’s cup trip to Premier Division Newmarket and at Needham Market Res on Saturday. He will probably name himself on the bench.
