Home comforts in short supply for March Town

The Hares had to endure another frustrating afternoon at the GER in this Ridgeons Division One game as they enjoyed plenty of possession but could not turn it into goals.

Last season March were dominant at home but this season they have struggled to put a run of wins together and have looked a much better side on their travels.

It did not help matters when they conceded a soft goal after just five minutes when they did not react quickly at a short corner and. when the ball was crossed to the far post. Halstead’s Nico Farthing needed only a tame header to score.

Dan Sterna soon had a good opening for the equaliser but shot wide and minutes later March were forced into a double substitution with Adam Sutton going off with a twisted knee and Sterna too ill too continue. On came Denny Escorcio and Grant Watson.

The game developed into a battle in midfield and, although March had the ball in the home side’s box enough, they just did take the best option as the ball flew across the face of the goal too many times with no contact.

Eventually it was Escorcio, who was causing the visitors problems, who set up the equaliser just before half-time when his cross found Juliano De Menezes whose first effort was blocked by the keeper but the rebound cannoned off the March player into the net.

March started the second half well enough to give a hint that victory was within their reach but they could not find the net and once again paid dearly.

After 65 minutes the visitors hit them again when Adam Smith launched a long throw into the box and Hearn headed the ball down for Palmer to score. It took some of the sting out of March and, although they huffed and puffed, they just could not find that vital goal.

Manager Jamie Weston: “It was very disappointing as they seemed to want it more than us.

“This was a game we should have won but we did not make the best of the ball when we had it in their box and gave away two soft goals with poor defending. Once we got the equaliser I thought we would go on to win but we did not make it happen. Grant Watson did very well when he came on.”

March: Lee Brooks, Simon Bates, Adam Sutton, Lee Day, Jordan Goult, Adam Cornell, Luke Pepper, Dan Sterna, Juliano De Menezes, Ash Brand, Kyle Plumb. Subs used: Denny Escorcio, Grant Watson Watson, Andy Bryan.
