WISBECH Town boss Steve Appleby snapped up two former Soham Town players last week with striker Dubi Ogbonna and midfielder Rogan McGeorge joining the club.
The 20-year-old McGeorge was once on Cambridge United’s books before joining Soham Town in 2010. Last season he made 19 appearances for Soham plus 14 games on loan for Mildenhall towards the end of the season.
It was during his spell at the Abbey Stadium that he had a four-week spell on loan with March Town during March 2009.
Appleby said: “He has impressed me when I have seen him play in the last two seasons. He will give us more variety in midfield and and add to the competition for places now that Ollie Pinner, Sam Murphy and Lewis Thompson have left the club.
“He is young and hungry and is keen show what he can do.”
Ogbonna scored for Soham against Wisbech last season in the Cambs Invitation Cup. He was with Southend as a youth and then had spells with Histon and Cambridge United
The 20-year-old was top scorer for Soham in his first season in 2009-10 with 20 goals to attract the attention of Celtic and Aberdeen and scored nine times in his second season. He then left and had spells with Sudbury, Cambridge City and one month with King’s Lynn.
He rejoined Soham last season and made 29 appearances and scored eight goals.
Appleby said: “Chris Dear made contact with him while I was away but he has shown what he can do at this level with Soham. He did not have the best of times last season when he was chopping and changing clubs but is impressed with our club and our ambitions and is another hungry young player who wants to do well.
“After Liam Nimmo left last season there was a lot of pressure on Chris Bacon and really we need three strikers at the club if we are to do well and we have that now.”
Appleby’s other signings this summer have been goalkeeper Lea Jordan, returning after a one season absence, and striker Simon Mowbray. The club now has five former Soham players on their books now with Ogbonna, McGeorge, Jordan, Darren Jimson and Scott Johnson.
