OSSIE Mintus is hoping to have former Chatteris Town players Aaron Collins and Jonny Brierley back at West Street this coming season.

Mintus (pictured), who was appointed manager on the final day of last season, said: “I have spoken to both players and hopefully they will be training with us when we start on next Tuesday.”

Collins left for Newmarket Town last season and Brierley had a spell with Somersham Town after they were part of Jimmy Unwin’s squad the previous season.

Mintus, who was previously reserves manager at Histon and Ely, has gone back to one of his clubs to recruit defender Johnny Few from Ely and is also hoping to bring another defender from the same club.

He added: “I am already enjoying the job with Chatteris. There is a real good feel about the club and if we can get more local people involved in helping out then I am sure the club can go forward.

“This is always a difficult time for a manager when you are chasing players and then wait to see if they come training, but I am hopeful we will have a good squad for this season. I have Liam Bull helping me and quite honestly we cannot wait to start the preseason training. We have also arranged five friendlies before the season starts on August 15.”

Promising young player Tom Moden, who missed most of last season with injury, is also expected to be back in action this season to give Chatteris a further boost for their Cambs Premier Division campaign.

The friendlies start on July 19 with Godmanchester at the Cromwell College 7pm and are followed by July 21 St Ives home noon kick off; July 26 Cambridge University Press home 7pm, July 31 Ely City away 7pm and August 6 Peterborough Sports home 7pm.

The first training session is at West Street next Tuesday (7pm) old and new players welcome.
