Wisbech Town 1, Eynesbury Rovers 1

A penalty miss cost the Fenmen victory in their final home pre-season game at the Elgood’s Fenland Stadium on Saturday.

Neal Spafford scored the Wisbech goal two minutes before half-time. Lee Bassett equalised for the UCL Division One visitors in the second half with a penalty.

Shortly after the Rovers equaliser, the hosts were granted a penalty for handball, but Callum Reed put it over the bar.

Boss Steve Appleby said: “Their penalty was apparently for a push in someone’s back. It didn’t look like a penalty because it looked outside the box.

“I didn’t think we played very well at all – it was probably our worst of the pre-season.

“We were trying to overcomplicate things instead of playing it simple.”
