A late, late goal snatched the Peterborough Youth League title out of Wisbech St Mary’s grasp on Thursday night.
Saints under 18s had to win their final game of the season against arch rivals Netherton United to claim the honours, but the game finished 1-1 for a second draw in the league between the two sides this season.
Mark Miller’s side started the game brilliantly with a goal from Drew McCulloch in the first minute, but after that both sides struggled to show their best football on the G3 all-weather pitch in a strong wind.
In the last few minutes Netherton piled on the pressure hitting the crossbar before grabbing an equaliser three minutes from time.
Saints have also narrowly lost in two cup finals this season to Netherton, but Miller’s team will be still be eligible for under 18 football again next season and are sure to be a force to be reckoned with.
