Some overdue luck

The Hares recorded their first home win since December 1 in the Thurlow Nunn Division One on Saturday, to the relief of manager Paul Crosbie.

He said: “The lads have taken some knocks and taken some stick from their mates.

“It is about time we have had a bit of luck, they thoroughly deserved it. At the death Ben Collett made a top-drawer save.”

Max Mattless volleyed in from 12 yards after a corner swung in by Ash Brand on 70 minutes. Sam Darlow made his first start since a shoulder injury.

Crosbie added: “We dominated the first half. The keeper made a blinding save from Danny Emmington, Max hit the post, and at half-time I said to keep going and the win will be there.

“We let some people on for free and hopefully they will go away thinking about what we are trying to do here.”

Toby Ogbonna came on for Joe Barnes, and it was the forward’s run that led to the decisive corner.

Robbie Masters and Lewis Thompson should return for the final Division One game of the season at Ipswich Wanderers.

Ben Collett will be at a stag do and Ben Lemmon has a weekend away, both pre-arranged before the league fitted in another fixture at the end of a weather-affected campaign.

Crosbie said: “We will try and finish the season as strongly as we can, and say thank-you to the board of directors who have stuck by us.

“The pitch at Ipswich I’m led to believe is good and one you can play football on.”

March: Collett, Ogden, Mattless, Darlow, Spendelow, White, Barnes, Lemmon, Emmington, Brand, Gallagher. Sub: Ogbonna.
