Emirates FA Cup
Wisbech Town 0
Holbeach United 1
Wisbech Town’s FA Cup dream ended in lacklustre fashion as they crashed out with very little fight to United Counties League title rivals Holbeach United.
The Tigers’ derby triumph was settled by a goal from Gary King.
A long-range effort from Declan Rogers was the Fenmen’s only noteworthy effort on target.
Holbeach included three former Wisbech players in their starting line-up, with a fourth on the bench, and it was the Tigers who had the better of the first-half efforts.
In the opening minute, home defender Paul Cousins conceded possession but Tom Gosling failed to capitalise on the error with a tame shot wide of the target.
Gosling then saw an effort well-saved by Aaron Butcher after Tommy Treacher’s initial effort had been deflected into his path.
Holbeach continued to hold the upper-hand with Andrew Tidswell’s turn and shot well-blocked by Jon Fairweather.
A mistake by Rogers saw Dan Worthington thread the ball through for Gosling, who was again denied by Butcher when one-on-one with the Wisbech goalkeeper.
The hosts offered little in the opening 45 minutes with Chris Bacon nodding over a Rogers centre in the early stages.
Holbeach remained in control after the interval with Wisbech failing to seriously trouble visiting goalkeeper Rick Drury at any stage in the match.
Seconds before King’s winner, Jake Clitheroe saw his header cannon back off the woodwork. King also had another effort brilliantly blocked by Cousins.
