Upwell Town 8
Whittlesford Utd Res 1
Upwell first team, who had previously been judged by their opponents to be “relegation battlers” in Whittlesford’s league, ran riot.
The opening 20 minutes were frantic, with the visitors going 1-0 up before Shane Spriggs equalised.
Keeper Luke Fage pulled off a smart save before Matt Thomas made it 2-1 with a fantastic free kick and Callum Summers netted a deep cross at the back post from Jonny Allen.
Midfielder Ashton Hodgson blasted into the top corner and winger Scott Beetlestone slotted home calmly to make it 5-1 at half-time.
Second half scorers: Martin Chapman, playing his 50th game for Upwell; substitute striker Alexandru Slaninoui; and top scorer Jack Watson.
Upwell manager, Karl Schultz, said: “I’m delighted that we’ve seen them eat their words as we inflicted their heaviest ever defeat on them.
“We’ve made a county cup final which is an absolute dream come true! We now have to focus on our league matches.”
