Wisbech boss’s cup changes pay off

Wisbech Town 4, Linton Granta 1

FENMEN boss Steve Appleby’s experimental side safely booked their progress with two goals in each half in the Cambs Invitation Cup on Tuesday night.

Lewis Clayton started and scored, while fellow youngsters Toby Ogbonna and Leverington defender Dale Palmer were also handed a shirt by Appleby.

Appleby, who began with a 3-5-2 formation, said: “We changed a few things, giving a few people a chance, and changed the system as well.

“It was always going to be tight at first, and we took time to settle.”

The Cambs Leaguers held out until past the 20th minute when Anthony Reeve opened the scoring.

Linton soon levelled, but Darren Jimson restored the lead ten minutes before the break.

Clayton found the net midway through the second half and Wisbech were home and dry thanks to Adam Millson’s second goal in two games.

Toby Ogbonna was fouled in the away box, however Rogan McGeorge missed the resulting penalty.
