Gary Freear hit 135 as Wisbech Town CC strengthened their grip at the top of the Cambs Tucker Premier League Division One.
Wisbech set an imposing target of 289-5 in their victory over visitors Cambridge NCI by 49 runs. Centurion Freear and skipper Alan Burton 39 put on 123 for the third wicket, while Gary’s brother Simon added an unbeaten 52.
Their declaration gave the hosts six extra overs to bowl out NCI who replied with 240 in the 44th over.
Burton said: “I batted a long time but Gary batted really well. He was fluent straight away. The ball came on the bat and they bowled OK to start with.
“But then Gary got in they didn’t know what to do.
“We did the opposite. We didn’t bowl well at first but after we got the second wicket we held our lines a bit better.
“We took all our chances, which leaves us with 25 points and 11 clear.”
Kiwi Bradley Perrett led the attack with impressive figures of 14-2-62-4 in a high-scoring game. Gary Freear 1-73, promoted bowler Tom Bourne 2-46, Jack Hastings 1-26 and Matthew Parrin 2-23.
Leaders Wisbech are on 158 points, Ramsey 147 and March 140. Then there is a big gap with Godmanchester on 120.
Next weekend at Camden all-rounder James Williams is still missing (work) and left-arm spinner Craig Johnson, who was unavailable due to family commitments on Saturday, comes in as a like-for-like by replacing Matt Parrin.
