Freear hits 16 fours and a six at Harecroft Road in Whitings League Division 1

By Pete Woodhouse

Gary Freear’s unbeaten 131 on Saturday settled the Fenland derby for Wisbech in a six wicket victory over March Town CC at Harecroft Road in Whitings League Division 1.

He brought up the win with a straight six over the sightscreen, as the hosts won this fixture for the ninth time in a row.

March recovered from 15-3 to post 236-9 to set up an entertaining match. Saranga Rajaguru hit another half-century – two in three Saturday matches with a century in between. But once again he fell to Will Gowler (2-21), as did Brandon Phillips, who struck 51 from 54 balls.

Away skipper Tyler Phillips battled for his 26, before Spencer Saberton added a lively 37 at No8. For the second week running, March batted out their 50 overs.

An early Andy Wright wicket was just what the visitors ordered, only for Wisbech to reply with a second wicket stand of 118 between Freear and Josh Bowers.

Slow left-armers Saberton and James Harradine bowled well in tandem and stemmed the tide. Harradine was disappointed that his first ball shout for lbw against Freear was turned down and he went on to hit 16 fours and a six.
