March Town, Parson Drove and Whittlesey Athletic so impressive but Wisbech Town disappoint

March Town, Whittlesey Athletic and Parson Drove all recorded impressive victories this afternoon but Wisbech Town suffered a disappointing defeat on the road.

Ash Taylor’s March made it two high-scoring wins this week when they followed up Tuesday evening’s 4-0 home win over Yaxley with a 5-2 win at Hinckley.

The Leicestershire side were undefeated in four United Counties Premier South games this season and were seventh before kick-off, but The Hares made it four wins and 15 goals on the road from their six away games this campaign.

After a couple of home defeats, they now seem to be up and running again, with new signing from Wisbech Town Tyler Knowles starting the game and St Ives loanee Evan Watkins on the bench.

In a flowing and equal first half, the home side opened the scoring when Zach Tellyn curled home from the edge of the area after 17 minutes but Adam Brumby equalised after 35 minutes with a clean strike from the edge of the box for his first of the season. Flo Tsaguim drilled home his ninth of the campaign from a 20-yard free kick to give March a 2-1 lead after 44 minutes, but Bradley Middleton headed home to make it 2-2 at the break.

The Hares stepped up a gear in the second half and Ben Tait, back after scoring two goals in for games during a loan at Thurlow Nunn Premier leaders Soham Town, made it 3-2 after 50 minutes when he tucked home Tsaguim’s cross from the left for his first Hares goal of the campaign.

James Hill-Seekings made it four with a flying header after 56 minutes, his fourth of the season, again from a Tsaguim cross. The scoring was wrapped up by Tait with his second after 65 minutes.

March, who are now third in the table, have been drawn away to Newmarket Town in the quarter-finals of the Cambs Invitational Cup, the tie to be played on Tuesday, November 4.

Next Saturday, March travel to play struggling Godmanchester Rovers and former striker Craig Gillies, who has netted five from 12 for Goddy this season. Gillies was missing today as they pulled off a great 2-2 draw at leaders Nuneaton Town.

In United Counties Premier North, Wisbech are down to 12th after a fourth successive league defeat, this time at bottom side Ashby Ivanhoe.

Although bottom, Ivanhoe had lost just one in seven league and cup games going into this fixture, so Luke Hipwell’s men knew victory was no foregone conclusion.

After a goalless first half, Wisbech, who lost Tyler Knowles to March and Stef Cavozzi to Parson Drove in midweek, conceded to Will Robson. Fifteen minutes later Ben Gough made it two, but Sam Harris gave Wisbech hope when he made it 2-1 after 73 minutes.

However, Robson’s second four minutes later wrapped up the win and took the Leicestershire side of the foot of the table.
