Hard-fought second for Wisbech juniors

Wisbech turned in another convincing performance as its young swimmers worked hard to take a strong second place in Round 4 of the Junior Fenland League at Whittlesey on Saturday.

Wisbech finished the meeting on 162 points, trailing City of Peterborough ‘A’ on 196 points, but managing to gain a 15-point lead over third-place Boston.

WSC came away with eight first places after 44 races, while 14 swimmers shared 20 new personal best times. The team also achieved 20 second places and ten thirds.

Multiple wins went to Charlie Bourne (13/U 50m backstroke and breaststroke, both for new PBs) and Elouise Youngs (13/U 50m butterfly and 4×25m individual medley, both PBs). Training at the club’s Hudson Sports Centre home pool continues towards the league’s Round 5 at Bedford, on September 12.

* WSC continued its top-notch gala results with another hard-fought second in Round 1 of the Senior Fenland League at the town’s Hudson Sports Centre.

West Norfolk delivered a dominant performance to win on 256 points, while Wisbech and Chatteris swapped positions for second place several times before the hosts pulled away in the closing stages to finish second on 202.

Over the 47 races Wisbech took three first places and a creditable 20 seconds, as well as setting nine new PB times.

The winners were: Bryony Pack, 14/U 100m freestyle and butterfly; and Joe Tierney, 45.02 seconds 10/U 50m breaststroke (PB). Current points: West Norfolk 413, Wisbech second on 310, Dereham third on 295.

The senior team turns out again on September 19 for Round 2.
