March Town earn play-off spot with Yaxley win and Wisbech Town draw at Deeping Rangers
March Town confirmed their place in the United Counties League Premier South play-offs with an impressive 2-1 win at Cambridgeshire rivals Yaxley this afternoon.
First-half goals from Matt Foy and Joe Rider were enough for victory against The Cuckoos, as March look to play Step 4 football for the first time. Ashton Haslam halved the deficit for the home side in the dying minutes of the game from the penalty spot.
Over in the United Counties League Premier North, Wisbech Town drew 1-1 at Deeping Rangers. The Fenmen conceded after just 20 seconds after a goal by former Fenman Matt Sparrow.
However, they worked their way back into the match and equalised in the 79th minute when Ethan Wilson floated the ball into the box from a free kick for Max Mattless to head home.
March entertain 15th-place Easington Sports on Saturday while Wisbech are at home to third-place Loughborough Students. In the Eastern Counties First Division North, Parson Drove host title-chasing Great Yarmouth Town.
