Cambs Invation Cup holders March progress to the semi-finals with thrilling victory over Newmarket




March Town began their defence of the Cambs Invitation Cup with a brilliant come-from-behind win at Newmarket Town last night.

The Hares found themselves two goals down in the quarter-final clash against their Isthmian League North hosts before staging a remarkable second-half comeback to progress with a 3-2 win.

Two goals in the opening 12 minutes from Oscar Dean and Kacper Brzozowiec gave the Jockeys a two-goal advantage going into the break at the NYO Stadium.

Toby Allen pulled a goal back for the Hares in the 64th minute before Ben Tait levelled the scores five minutes later.

Just as it looked as though the last-eight tie would be settled from the spot, Rio Henson popped up with the winner for the Hares in the first minute of stoppage time.

The attention quickly turns to Saturday’s FA Vase Second Round trip to Saffron Walden Town.

Tonight, both Whittlesey Athletic and Parson Drove are also in Cambs Invitation Cup action.

Athletic host Isthmian League North outfit Cambridge City, while Parson Drove welcome Ely City in the other quarter-final clash.
