March Town Reserves top the table but not at their best

Several games survived the weekend’s heavy rainfall.

Cambs County League Senior B leaders March Town Reserves were not at their best but won 2-1 at Fordham. Reece Thompson scored after half an hour to make it 1-0 to the Hares at the break, but they conceded early in the second half and were lucky not to concede again.

However, five substitutions sparked the visitors into life and they won the contest in the 86th minute when sub Sam Bedwell scored with a great header.

In 2B of the Cambs County League, Wisbech St Mary Reserves were held 4-4 at home to Eaton Socon A. Saints had led 3-0 after 30 minutes with goals from Andy Willmott (2) and Jamie Leet, only to be pegged back to 3-2 at the break. Saints were then reduced to 10 men and went 4-3 down before equalising from a Ryan McManus penalty.

In 4B, March Academy Adults lost 3-0 at Willingham Wolves and Wisbech St Mary A beat Manea United Reserves 7-0.

In the Creake Charity Cup, 1B side Benwick Athletic (Christchurch) lost 4-3 at home to 1A strugglers Tuddenham Rovers, James Harness, David Jackson and Dillon Stevens.

In the William Coad League Cup, 2B side Outwell Swifts went down 3-0 at Huntingdon United Reserves, of the same division. Manea United progress though after beating The Eagle (Ely) 1-0.

Guyhirn, of 4B, exit the Reg Haigh and Arthur Peck Cup at the first stage after a 4-3 defeat at Bar Hill SSC of 4A, but Chatteris Town A progress after a 4-2 win at Mepal and Sutton Reserves in an all-4B affair, Dean Joyce scoring twice and Stephen Pettet and Joshua Templeman also on target.

Upwell Town are through to after beating fellow 4B side Pymoor 6-5, Sam Cubberley hitting three and Benjamin Crowson, Aaron Field and Anthony Wallbridge also on target. Sub Daniel Western was red carded.

Long Sutton Athletic have just one win on the board this season and on Saturday went down 5-1 at Eunice Huntingdon in Division One of the Peterborough League, after being level 1-1 at the break. Marley Hamilton scored their goal.

In the same division, Wisbech Town Reserves lost an 11-goal thriller 6-5 at Glinton & Northborough, Dylan Rust notching a hat-trick for the Fenmen and Manny Agyemang scoring twice.

Adam Crane netted twice for Long Sutton Athletic Reserves but they were beaten 6-2 at leaders Bourne Town A in Division Three and it’s now nine defeats from nine for the Magpies.

Division Two side Leverington Sports Reserves lost 4-1 at home to Division One outfit FC Peterborough Reserves in the Peterborough Challenge Cup, Samuel Fabela on target. In the same competition, goals from Daniel Cassidy, Kyle Davis and sub Charlie King were not enough as another Division Two side Tydd Reserves lost 5-3 at home to Peterborough Polonia, of Division One.
