March Town go into Christmas occupying the highest league position they have in years after another win on the road today.

Goals from Jack Friend and Ben Matthews saw the newly-promoted Hares win a tight game 2-1 at Haverhill Rovers in the Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League Premier Division.

March now sit in eighth spot after winning five of their last six matches, and that after losing their first five league games of the season.

March took a first half lead when Friend fired home his 19th goal of the season from the penalty spot after Adam Brumby was fouled. However, Haverhill soon equalised and it was 1-1 at the break.

The victory was sealed late in the second half when Friend turned provider, squaring for substitute Matthews to score.

It was not such a good day for Wisbech Town, however, as they went down 3-1 to high-flying Coleshill Town in the Pitching In Northern Premier League Midland Division.

The Fenmen, who introduced King's Lynn Town loan midfielder Joe Gascoigne as a second half substitute, pulled a goal back through Dylan Edge in the 55th minute.
