North Cambs EBF’s final Derbyshire Trophy was decided by very last bowl vs Norfolk at Sutton St. James IBC

Derbyshire Trophy, February 2, North Cambs EBF vs Norfolk, played at Sutton St. James Indoor Bowls Club.

On Sunday, North Cambs EBF’s final game in this season’s Derbyshire Trophy was decided by the very last bowl of the match.

With North Cambs one shot down on the board, but with Andy Hailes, Anthony Hancock and Matthew Fox holding one in the last game to be decided, Norfolk’s Danny Cawthorne removed Hailes’s shot wood via a wick (deflection of a short bowl) and picked up three shots.

This was the first and only time during the entire match of 600 bowls, played over 100 ends that Norfolk were ahead in the match. The scoring system (2 points for each winning rink and 6 points for the overall aggregate score) meant that Norfolk won the game 10 points to 4 which doesn’t sound particularly close – but other than a draw, it really couldn’t have been any closer!

The North Cambs spoons (awarded to the players on the rink that win by the most shots after 25 ends) were won by David Bailey, Simon Peach and Nigel Eagle – pipping Chris Pope, Frank Howard and Robert Allen by one shot.

That victory meant that Simon Peach ended the season with a 100% record in the competition, winning all 4 of the games he played in.

ull Result: North Cambs 4 points (85 shots), Norfolk 10 points (89 shots).
