Jack props up Town’s away win

Wisbech Town warmed up for next weekend’s March derby with an seven-wicket Tucker Cricket League Division 1 triumph at Castor & Ailsworth.

Young opening bowler Jack Hastings bagged an outstanding return of 16-8-24-4 for the league leaders and dismantled the top order as Castor were dismissed for 93.

After Hastings’ fine work, skipper Alan Burton cleaned up the tail with 4-10 off 4.5 overs. Craig Johnson weighed in with 1-15 and Gary Freear 1-16.

In reply ’keeper Josh Bowers scored 51 not out to see the visitors home on 94-3 and add to his two earlier stumpings. Burton and Gary Freear contributed 14 each.

Bowers and Burton compiled a 45 stand for the second wicket then Burton and Freear added 20.

Burton said: “It was a good win on an average wet wicket but there were no issues with the weather.”

Jamie Gollands comes in for Kieran Haynes on Saturday at home to March and all-rounder James Williams may be available after missing much of the past month due to work.
