Wisbech Ladies 1sts 0 Lowestoft 1

Wisbech were confident of a win with a youthful side which would have secured division 1 safety.

They started the game strongly with all the possession and should have been 1-0 up in the first 10 minutes through Laura Overland, but the goal was disallowed.

Wisbech continued to dominate but were caught on the counter and went into half-time 1-0 down.

The second half was a repeat performance of the first half with Wisbech creating chance after chance but, unfortunately, they were unable to capitalise on their dominance. They head to Sudbury next week needing a win to secure hockey in division 1 next season.

PoM: Laura Overland.

Wisbech Ladies 2nd 0

Peterborough 3’s 4

Wisbech went into this game thinking they could get something out of it but Peterborough were a much stronger team this time round. Play was quite even but Peterborough finished better than Wisbech and the ladies were soon 0-2 down. A flick was converted making it 0-3 at half-time.

Wisbech couldn’t finish the chances they created due to the Peterborough keeper who was defiant and going to keep a clean sheet. Peterborough netted one more in the second half, making the final score 0-4.

PoM: Tina Forder – having a superb performance in goal.

Many thanks to all umpires and supporters this week. It’s very much appreciated.

Wisbech had their best performance of the season against the second placed side in the league. They outplayed them for long periods but could never find the net.

The Wisbech goal finally came from a well-struck short corner with Olly Mitchell deflecting the ball over the keeper. If they can maintain that standard into next season the future looks good.

MoM: Olly Mitchell and Thomas Gregory.
