Ketton Ladies 1, Leverington Sports Ladies 3

Leverington ended their season without some big players - and with others playing through injury.

Despite this, the team put in a very good performance and worked incredibly hard for each other to come away with the points.

The home team kicked off the game and attacked from the start but the visiting defence knew what to expect and dealt with the early pressure.

Both teams came close to breaking the deadlock from set pieces, but some good goalkeeping at both ends kept the score goalless at the break.

Leverington started the second half determined to get the win and began to get on top of the game, with chances again at both ends.

It was the prolific Sophie Swinden who opened the scoring when Amy Newell won the ball in midfield and flighted a perfect though ball for Swinden to latch onto and fire across the keeper into the net.

This was the start of a crazy two minutes as, straight from the kick off, Ketton played a long ball over the top which somehow eluded the defence and the home striker nipped in and prodded the ball home.

Leverington then kicked off, Newell lofted the ball over the home defence and Ella Gavaghan raced forward and lifted it over the oncoming keeper to restore the lead.

The game became very stretched in the final 15 minutes, with chances at both ends and the home team throwing everyone forwards.

Faye Kowlewsky settled any nerves though when she was played in by Kaylie Swinden and slotted past the keeper to seal the win.

It was a great way to end a very long and tiring season for the ladies who finished on 29 points, just two points off fourth place.
