Leverington Ladies hit for six but U17s victorious

Leverington suffered a second home defeat at the weekend but put in a much more dogged performance against last season’s champions.
After Leverington had created a couple of chances, Netherton took the lead midway through the half direct from a free kick and doubled it shortly after when they caught the defence out with a clever pass.
Leverington continued to press and were rewarded when Kayleigh Gray fired home her first of the season to to make it 2-1 to the visitors at the break. Netherton can out fast in the second half but a compact home team continued to frustrate and hit the visitors on the break, forcing the away keeper to make a good save. However, after 65 minutes the visitors increased the lead, heading home from a corner.
With the home team throwing caution to the wind, they conceded a further three in the final ten minutes, which flattered the visitors.
Leverington U17 Girls started their league campaign against St Ives Rangers.
Both teams created good opportunities before Player of the Match Poppy Lakey opened the scoring with a lovely free kick for Leverington.
A 30 yard effort from Millie McClaish made it 2-0 and that’s the way it stayed up to half time.
After the break, Lauren Davis slotted home number three after a quick break and captain Charlotte Wheatley bundled in the fourth.
