LEARN MOREHigh-flying City of Peterborough arrived at a sunny Sutton and took the game straight to the young Long Sutton Men’s 1sts side in a 2-2 draw.
Excellent work from the Sutton defenders held them at bay with man of the match Tom Burton showing some excellent composure.
Even though COP had the early upper-hand Sutton did manage to put together some excellent patterns of play and could consider themselves a little unfortunate when they fell behind before half-time. The score at half-time was 1-0 to Peterborough.
Sutton started the second half well and it was no surprise when Will Taylor equalised after good work from Canham and Markillie. This boosted the young side and they played some of their best hockey of the season so far.
Sutton took the lead through a deft deflection from Luke Jackson after excellent work from Josh Baker.
Peterborough then pushed forward looking for an equaliser, but met excellent defending from captain Fox, Baguley and Harry Synott in particular. However, they did manage to equalise eventually and could have gone on to win if it had not been for a missed flick.
The game ended in a draw which was probably the fairest result after what was an excellent game played in good spirit. A good response from the young team following the previous week’s result.
