Long Sutton not at the races in Newmarket defeat
Newmarket 1sts 2
LSHC Ladies 1
Long Sutton were looking for another thoroughbred performance, after they had performed exceptionally against leaders St Ives and second place Cambs University.
Newmarket were fighting for their status in 2NW. The visitors arrived with a bare 11 which meant for a tough day, but there was confidence that the fourth place target could be achieved.
However, right from the off, Sutton didn’t seem to be at the races. Newmarket deservedly took the lead half-way through the first period and doubled their lead. A few minutes before the interval skipper Leanne Woodhead moved the ball to fellow striker Lyn Tancred who managed to steer it past the home keeper.
The second half performance was very much improved, but nowhere near the excellent recent levels.
Final game next weekend is at home at Peele School where Sutton host City of Peterborough 2nds, who need to win in order to avoid relegation.
