Sutton travelled to Surfleet and turned the form book upside down to win three precious derby points.

Sutton came from behind and fittingly on Valentine’s weekend Danny Sisson was the one that got away, to make it 1-1. This was quickly followed by a fine finish from Fred Whatling after good work from Sisson and it was 2-1 at half time.

The vital second half goal came from Gavaghan setting up Whatling, followed by Fyson and Sisson.

With half-term approaching this was always going to be a hard game, with a long drive to top of the league St Neots who had 16 wins from 16 games.

A special thanks to all that came and helped out.

PoM: Kieran Forrest for stepping up from the fourths at right back.

On a bitterly cold day at Peele Leisure Centre, Sutton welcomed back Louise Southgate from her extended injury break.

Chance after chance came and went but within a minute of the second half starting, Long Sutton got their rewards when skipper Leanne Woodward and Leah Goodley set up Lyn Tancred. Within minutes the lead had doubled via Woodhead’s reverse stick effort.

This cements joint third place with Cambridge City 3rds.

A week’s rest now until February 27 with a trip to top of the table St Ives.
