Gruelling end of season schedule to catch up on games and overhaul leaders Buckden Reserves

By Pete Woodhouse

Luke Plumb starred as Outwell Swifts continued on their way to what would be a memorable league and cup double on Thursday night by lifting the Cambs Lower Junior Challenge Cup in the final at Histon FC.

Plumb completed a hat-trick to brush aside Harston Bostocks 3-0.

The Cambridgeshire County League side are already favourites to land the Mead Plant & Grab 3B divisional title.

However they will have to finish a gruelling end of season schedule in order to catch up on games and overhaul current leaders Buckden Reserves.

The Swifts have five games in hand on Buckden Reserves, who have already finished their fixture programme.

On Saturday, 24 hours after their final win, Plumb added another finishing masterclass by scoring seven in a 9-2 win over March Academy.

Goals from a Ben Jimson brace finished the scoring.

Swifts last night (Tuesday) went to St Ives Rangers Reserves and on Saturday continue their mission at home to Cottenham United Reserves.

They need at least three wins from their five remaining games to overhaul Buckden Reserves, and also have home matches against Bluntisham Rangers Reserves, St Ives Rangers Reserves and Fordham Reserves to complete their schedule after the first week of May.
