Jackman and Sharp take the honours at March club championships
March Golf Club held the final of its Club Championship, with Michael Jackman victorious.
Playing off a 10 handicap, Jackman scored a total gross over the two rounds of 157.
He said: "It was a bit of a surprise to win as there are several better players at the club, but the course in in great condition with the greens playing fast and with difficult pin positions too it was a good challenge.
"It’s a real honour to have my name on the board as I have such a high regard for the players on it, I never thought I would make it myself."
Michael is no stranger to sporting success, having previously been a local bowls champion.
The Club Handicap Championship was won by long-hitting Tom Sharp with a nett score of 133. Playing off 15 handicap, he had an exceptional second round gross of 76, giving him a nett score on the day of 61.
Highlights of Tom’s round included birdies at the first and tenth, sinking five putts from outside 15ft, and a couple of memorable par-saves after wayward tee-shots. It’s a well deserved win for Tom, who has reaped the reward of all his hard work both on the practice ground and on the course.
March Golf Club is open to non members, and the club has recently introduced a twilight rate. But all golf must be booked in advance – please see the website for details.
